Small squarish rugs of the various Turkmen tribes were often made as wedding rugs - extremely finely knotted for the bride and groom to stand on at their wedding ceremony and take their vows. The high quality of the work in these beautiful little rugs was a sign of how good a weaver she was and thus her desirability as a wife! Such rugs were highly prized and never intended for sale!
