Very Unusual Jewelry Box in Lebanon Cedar - Mother of Pearl Inlay C.1910

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A wonderfully handsome antique Jewellery box dating to the early twentieth century, made from exquisite burr Lebanon Cedar which would have originated from North Africa, the box however made in England.

This exquisite and highly decorative timber has been decorated all around and on the lift-off lid with a geometric design incorporating fine Boxwood & Ebony stringing and Mother of Pearl shell cut into squares.

Once the lid is removed, a series of pull out trays is revealed. I was love to see the change in the timber colour, inside looking new and fresh, almost the same as the day the box was made; compare this with the rich dark patina on the outside, which only comes with age, exposed to all the elements for over 100 years.

The trays have all been sympathetically re-lined in a hand-marbled paper.

Excellent condition, the footprint measures 10 1/2" x 6 1/4" x 5 1/4" tall; each tray has an internal measurement of 4" square.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
