Description

A rare leather and brass bound English antique campaign chest. Of rectangular form and with a hinged lid which opens to reveal a canvas lined interior with large iron hooks which were used when strapping the chest to a vehicle or mule when travelling. The front having the original brass and copper clasp, imprinted R.E.B.43 with further letters followed by 10,12 which could indicate October 1912 as the year of manufacture. The sides retaining the original wonderful large leather and brass bound carrying handles. The trunk iron bound and in beautiful original condition retaining remnants of original travelling labels. An example of this rare trunk is featured on page 156 of the excellent book "British Campaign Furniture" by Nicholas A Brawer
