Description

Rare 17th.c. North Wales meal chest or grain bin c.1680. Fabulous piece of local vernacular furniture from the ancient hamlet of Llanrychwyn, above the Conwy valley. For the storage of ground flour or oats, the cleverly hinged lid lifts off the base to make a hand barrow to be carried by two people with long poles which would engage with the shaped yokes. Of pegged construction, the timber is oak, untouched by wax or polish since the day it was made, it has been bleached almost white over the years.

Dimensions: width 54", depth 33", height 51".
