The Case
The well proportioned slender case, constructed of beautifully figured quarter sawn oak.
The hood door having attached turned pillars terminating with turned wooden capitals.
The long trunk door with very good quality strap hinges.
The box base with a shaped plinth.
The Dial
The square brass dial is of elegant design with finely cast ornate spandrel mounts in the corners and a matted dial centre, with silvered axe head cartouche with makers name inscribed to the lower centre.
Finely engraved subsidiary seconds zone, recessed into the matted centre, with scalloped edge.
Ringed calendar work, with square aperture above the VI.
The silvered chapter ring has bold Roman numerals and an outer minute circle with Arabic numerals at five minute intervals.
The Movement
The high quality movement is of eight day duration, the plates united by five knopped pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a single bell.

Finely fretted and wrought blued steel hands.

Original lead weights, original brass faced pendulum.
The Maker
Edward Stevens working circa 1760 – 1780 a similar example by the same maker can be seen at the National Trust Property – Gunby Hall Estate, Lincolnshire.
