Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The box is inlaid on four sides with Mother of Pear or Nacre shell in turn hand painted.

As if this wasn't enough, the box is then covered in rich gilding, all in all a spectacular piece.
The lid lifts which in turn allows for the two hinged doors to open revealing the fully fitted interior. The lock to the box is not operational as the mechanism is broken inside and it's too much of a risk to remove the lock for replacement, so the original lock is intact but non-operational.

There are three square Victorian cut crystal decanters in the ever-popular hobnail cut and six small liquor glasses each hanging from there individual gilded brackets, I believe the glasses may be replacements, they seem a little later.
A grand and impressive museum quality show-piece in superb condition. 11" x 11 1/2" x 12" tall.
