Description

A quite wonderful and most unusual pocket watch holder made from silver plate, featuring a fabulous and beautifully executed cast Bear with the hook in his mouth to hang a traditional pocket watch.

The Bear holds a basket which would be used to place other items such as a ring or cufflinks and I wander if the two balls on his stick were used to hang other pieces of small jewelry.

What makes this piece rather special is the underside bearing an English diamond shaped design registration lozenge which allows us to date the piece, this gem with a registration date of 13th November 1874; a true Victorian example.

The patina is untouched and not re-plated with minor areas of wear, preferable to being re-plated. Excellent condition, with a base diameter measuring 3 5/8" and standing 6" tall.
