Unusual Regency Brass-inlaid Writing Box

Description

An impressive early/mid 19th century Regency period brass-inlaid mahogany WRITING BOX of very good quality with interesting features.

The well-figured "flame" mahogany case with its brass inlay, opens at the back to reveal a fitted compartment for inkwells, pens etc., and then opens to the front for the original gilt-tooled leather writing surface, with further stationery compartments beneath.

The interior has two small "conventional" secret drawers, whilst we have discovered an unusual additional (very!) secret compartment within. 14ins (35.5cms) wide.
