This is a lovely elegant pepper or pounce pot made by the famous silversmiths Robert Hennell I and David Hennell II.
The insides of both the pot and the lid are beautifully gilded.
The lid fits securely to the base and has a partial hallmark - the lion passant and the maker''s mark - on the rim.
The foot of the pot has been well repaired at some point - please see the photographs. It has, however, resulted in an inability to read the hallmark on the pot itself. As the maker''s mark is that of Robert Hennell I and David Hennell II, the pounce pot can confidently be dated between 1795 and 1801.
There is an engraving to the front of the pounce pot - possibly MAE.
