Description

A fabulous top quality biscuit box made from a large and hefty piece of Victorian glass with exquisite engraved decoration. The tray and hinged lid are made from EPNS or Electro-Plated Nickel Silver and again, beautifully decorated with fine engraved decoration.

The tray stands on four decorative ball and claw feet and the underside of the tray is where the full mark for George Richmond Collis & Co. Ltd., 130 Regent St. London. Collis made a wide range of goods, described in an 1839 advertisement as "Articles in the highest classes of the arts, in Gold, Silver, Plated Bronze & Or-Molu....". and in an 1849 advertisement "Manufacturers of Gold and Silver Services of Every Descriptions, Platers by the new process of Electro Plate on fine German Silver &c....".

This stunning piece remains in superb condition. The tray measures 8 3/4" x 6 1/2" and the box measuring 7" x 5" and together stand 8 1/4" tall to top of finial.
