Very Large Japanese Imari Jar C.1880.

Description

Massive late 19th.c. Japanese Imari baluster form ginger jar and lid c.1880. Standing 30" tall and of unusual ribbed or gourd form, decorated with gambolling 'kara shi shi foh' dogs painted with flowers against an pattered ground representing waves upon the ocean. Damage to the finial lid, otherwise excellent condition.

Dimensions: diameter 15", height 30".
