An Interesting Oil Painting on Panel

Description

Henry Brittan Willis**: a charming OIL PAINTING ON PANEL entitled "Crews Hole Near Hanham Glocestershire" (sic) ~ beautifully painted and nicely inscribed on the reverse. A Regency couple are shown in the foreground, looking down into the abyss below.

Signed to the reverse and dated 1827.

** HENRY BRITTAN WILLIS was born in 1810 and brought up in Bristol and is recorded as painting cattle and landscapes. He left for America in 1842, returning in the next year to settle in London. He died in 1884. See Christopher Wood page 520.
