Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The centre has a fabulous and unusual inlaid cartouche featuring a fabulous mythical Dog.

The box comes with a working key which opens the top panel to reveal two original Sheffield plated topped inkwells, with the copper showing. There is one large brass inlaid lidded compartment and a removable pen tray and two smaller sloped compartments for pen nibs and the like.

The leather is completely original with highly decorative embossing and surrounding cross banding. The leather is split at the join but this should be kept rather than replacing the leather. The top section opens to store your stationery or letters and the underside has the note board.
A fabulous and lavish display piece in excellent condition. Measures 12" x 10" x 3 3/4" tall at rear.
