Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
This chest is really good quality, with fine dovetails on the drawers. It also has a lovely original colour throughout, with no splits or warps. There are various old markings, indentations, etc. within the surface, but that only adds to the over all character of this piece. If you like your antiques looking new, then this is definitely not for you. I would date this chest to around the 1840-60's period. There is an old makers or sellers label in the top drawer 'James Phillips & Sons' of Bristol, nailed on to the inside.
