Description

A wonderful and most unusual butter dish made from silver plate of leaf from. The stylish handle is topped with a thumb rest, again in the shape of a leaf.

There is a knife rest to one side which houses a naturalistic handled butter knife.

The lid lifts to reveal the original white Copeland Spode ceramic liner, it's quite miraculous how this has been kept in such wonderful undamaged condition over the last 120 years. The underside is marked for Hukin and Heath.

The underside of the silver plated stand is also marked for Hukin and Heath. The underside of the lid has an English Design Registration number, reserved for items of notable design and quality; the number lets us date it's registration to the year 1892, so a true Victorian example. This one really does have all the attributes one would wish for.

Excellent condition, measuring 5 1/4" wide x 6 1/2" deep including handle. The ceramic liner has a diameter measuring 3 1/2".
