17th Century North European Painted Pine Table Top Box Casket

Description

A North European table top painted pine casket, late 17th or early 18th Century, with arcaded front and iron carrying handle to the top and bearing the date 1650. The interior with fancy strapwork hinges and ornate wrought lock with engraved decoration and a candle or 'till' box with lift up lid. The whole upon sled runners. The lock is operated with two keys (one of which is repaired) but does not currently work that well.

The paint finish is most certainly antique, but probably not original to the box.

32cm high x 54cm wide x 33cm deep
