Description

A much sought after stool from the coronation of King George VI in 1937 at West Minster Abbey (and possibly designed by Edward Barnsley). Favoured guests at the coronation used these stools and were invited to purchase them after the ceremony as souvenirs. Upholstered in a blue/green coloured velvet, it stands on square legs, with tapered carvings at top and bottom.

To the underside of the stool is the makers stamp; Waring & Gillows along with date (1937) along with a "GR VI" monogram and "coronation".

Construction/Wood:

Oak

Condition Report:

Fairly solid - some slight give to legs. Wear and marks comenusrate with age. Some marks to the upholstery with one area of fabric stained (see photos) - webbing still ok. No worm of splits to the frame. Brackets to the unerneath at either side which appear to be original.
