Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
This eighteenth century gem stands on three bracket feet and has been converted into a stationery box making it a very usable piece in the 21st century, over two centuries after it was made to hold cutlery.
The centre of the lid is inlaid with the original shell, there is also one on the inside of the lid.

The box comes complete with a working key and remains in superb condition. Some fine old grain cracks, made stable having been professionally re-polished. The box measures 9 1/2" wide at the back x 11 1/2" deep; standing 15 1/2" tall at rear and 11" high at front. The interior width measures 7 7/8" at widest (rear).
