Antique English Figural Novelty Cruet in Silver Plate - Donkey - 1873

Description

Always highly sought-after, these charming novelty cruets are very collectible.

Made from English Nickel Silverplate, the naturalistic base is mounted with a Donkey eating from a trough, which acts as the open salt, with lavish gilding on the interior.

Either side of the donkey the rings contain the cut crystal mustard pot (with spoon) and pepperette.

What makes this example desirable is the presence of an English design diamond shaped registration lozenge, which allows us to date accurately the date this design was registered, which is January 3rd, 1873.

About as charming as they come, in excellent condition. Approximately 4 1/4" 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" tall.
