Christian Davies Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Opening to reveal a well fitted writing interior and when fully extended, releases the unusual "pop up" stationery compartment which reveals the various sized boxwood shaped compartments and the intricate fretwork gallery. The right hand end has a panelled door again with marquetry boxwood inlaid detail, cross banded in tulipwood and opens to reveal four mahogany lined storage drawers. The front, back and alternate side also tulipwood banded with boxwood marquetry inlaid detail and again using the finest burr walnut veneers. The front of the davenport having writhen turned and pierced fretwork column supports, the whole supported on a burr walnut veneered plinth with inset brass and porcelain castors. English circa 1860
