Finely sewn and worked by Elizabeth Barber (aged 11 years!) and dated 1768, this early sampler includes a very unusual inscription under the heading of: THE SAYING OF QUEEN ELIZABETH (The First): "Christ was the word that spoke it; He took his Bread and break it; And what the Word doth make it; So I Believe and Take it."
One or two small holes ~ to be expected in a sampler of this early date. Charming.
