Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The box is as fresh as the day it was made, clearly near untouched over the last 150 years, and lucky enough to have been preserved by it's original leather protector which you can see took the brunt of the last century and a half.

The gold embossing, gilded fittings, pair of inkwells. Bramah lock and engraved plaque are all in pristine shape. The box opens to reveal the interior of the lid to be lined in a Royal Blue silk with memo board and the leather instrument holder with a gilded catch which when released falls down to allow full access to the lid interior.

The removable tray contains a black gold-embossed leather pen tray, also removable with space below. To the right there is a nib tray with the original nibs and the two original ink bottles.

The box comes complete with it's original key tied to the handle currently as it must never be left inside the box as the box automatically locks on closing, so it should never be placed inside.
An exquisite piece of history. 11 1/2" x 8 3/4" x 4 3/4" tall.
