Longcase Clock Hallifax Barnsley Circa 1745

Description

An interesting Georgian 'cottage' longcase clock. A slim stained pine case with a stepped moulded hood pediment. A long trunk door with the original brass catch. A 10" square brass dial with matted centre and corner spandrels. A large arched date aperture with the original single hand dial layout. A 30 hour mechanism with original rope drive.

Joseph Hallifax of Barnsley is recorded in Loomes 'Clockmakers of Northern England' book as being born in 1728 and died in 1762. The Hallifax family of clockmakers are well documented and produced some fine clocks and distinctive barometers.

Height 6ft 5 " / 197cms.
