Iron Armada Chest

18th century
Description

An 18th. Century German Armada Chest with typical strap work and hand riveting. The carrying handles, clasps, dummy lock plate and secret sprung escutcheon all original. The key a later replacement.

The interior having 5 sprung catches and a decorative back plate engraved with half horse half fish mythical creatures. The engraved plate is secured by 5 bolts of which the top right one is missing/broken (possibly due to lid being dropped). See photo.The base in good condition with no holes or damage and still retaining the original lid support. Sizes:- Max.Width...28''...71cm. Depth...16.5''...42cm. Height...14''...35.5cm.
