Description

A quite wonderful Victorian visiting card case smothered in Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell with it's magical iridescent quality.

The front is inlaid with panels of sterling silver, beautifully engraved. The central diamond shaped panel has a central vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The mother of pearl on the front has also been engraved and inked .. all in all, a stunning combination.

The clasp works perfectly and the hinges in great condition, once opened, the original interior is revealed.

Dating to around 1860 / 1870, the case remains in superb condition. 4 1/4" x 3" while closed.
