Fine early C19th Regency period twin-pillar mahogany dining table. Rare and totally original table with sliding and extending telescopic action together with 2 original leaves. Consistent original colour and patina to top and leaves. The friezes of the tables each with beaded edge decoration and an end-panel reeded-surround reserve forming a classical tablet.The two pedestals bolt together through the telescopic box-action to form a strong, flat platform to take either 1 or 2 extension leaves. Replacement quality period-style brass forks secure the table and the leaves ,and all sections are marked numerically in original format. The reeded and 'hipped' four-splay sabre legged bases on elegant ring-turned columns ,and terminating in stylish Egyptian-influence design brass castors in the manner of Thomas Hope inspired by antiquity. Excellent grade of timber forming a very flat and stable top of great proportions with a reeded edge . Designed to be used both as a large or smaller dining table , alternatively can be utilised as a pair of console tables when dismantled. Top with marks commensurate with age and use , but importantly retaining original 'skin' and finish , having achieved a wonderful mellow colour. Comfortable 10 seater dining table of elegant design and proportions .
