Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 1800s.
This is an unusual piece normally found in French Farm worker’s cottage, where space was very limited, the coffer would have been used to keep food in (much like an English Bacon Settle) The lid of the coffer opens by sliding forward on runners, in this way the inside can be accessed and also the top serves as a table top for dining

This is a very heavy piece the top is made in Elm, 4 planks which are over 1” thick and beautifully patinated
A truly superb piece and will be very useful in any Farmhouse kitchen with storage under the table top

The Coffer measures 69’’ wide x 27’’ deep and stands 30’’ high
