Georgian Scottish Edinburgh Longcase Clock

Description

Georgian Scottish longcase clock of slim proportions. A mahogany case with choice timbers. A swan neck hood pediment with central brass finial. Fretwork to the hood pediment typical of an Edinburgh case. Brass capped fluted hood columns and side glass apertures. Fluted trunk side columns. A well engraved silvered dial with date and seconds dials. Serpentine blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

John Millar of Edinburgh is recorded in Whytes' 'Scottish Clock and Watchmakers' book as working from 1771-1784.
