Description

A fabulous example of a figural Victorian butter dish, the lid topped with a cast Cow finial.

The body of the dish is made from vertical panels of solid English Oak, the same way one would make a traditional barrel or bucket, held together with a silver plated base and lining.

Once the lid is removed, the original glass liner is revealed, miraculous how it has survived 120 years and undamaged.

The silver plated underside is marked for the well renowed silversmith's, Atkin Brothers and EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver.

Excellent condition, measuring 5 1/2" handle to handle, the glass liner having a diameter measuring 4 1/2"; the piece stands 3 1/4" tall to top of Cow finial.
