19th Century 16ft oak extending dining table, designed possibly for William Gibbs at Tyntesfield, Wraxall, Somerset, now owned by National Trust. Williams Gibbs was the richest untitled man in England in 1860, having made his enormous fortune from importing guano from South America to Europe, the beginning of modern chemical farming. Plucknet and Collier, the manufacturers, were the main suppliers in the neo Gothic style which Gibbs used in his design of Tyntesfield. This table is item 40.
