Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

The box is brass bound on all edges including the base, always a clear sign of quality as is the beautiful hinges and lock used (complete with a working key). The top of the box has a decorative central inlaid cartouche with the original monogram of the owner (I think J C) and the date 1854.

The interior has been re-lined, we had no choice as the inside was in very poor condition, it has been re-finished in Italian hand-marbled paper to create a fresh and clean interior for whatever you choose to use this gem for.

The box did have the original velvet padded fall front portfolio in the lid but it was so tired it had to be removed but we have kept (and will ship with the box) it, as it retains the original label inside for Tiffany, New York.

A stunning piece in excellent condition (a small dint to the brass trim at the front - shown and mentioned purely for accuracy). 12 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 5 3/4".
