Antique English Edwardian Blue and White Transfer "Lanercost Priory" Pattern Pottery Dish ~ Mintons

A fine, small Early 20th Century Antique English Edwardian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Dish, by Mintons of Stoke-on Trent, Staffordshire, { 1793 - }, from their "Miniature" series, originally issued in the 1820's, but re-issued later, the latest piece recorded to date being for 1915. Printed in the "Lanercost Priory" pattern, with a view of the Priory set within a border of leaves and convolvulus flowers. Founded Circa 1166, Lanercost Priory, Cumberland, an Augustinian foundation, was built mainly of stones taken from Hadrian's Wall. The source print for this pattern, taken from Volume 3 of Britton and Brayley's "The Beauties of England and Wales" { 1801 - 1815 } is dated 1st February 1803. In addition to the printed pattern title, the piece also bears a rather confusing series of impressed marks to the reverse. The impressed Makers Mark, viz. MINTONS, ie. post 1873, an impressed arrowhead, suggesting a date of 1874, but also what appears to be the impressed date code for 1903 ! A delightful piece of English pottery nevertheless, whenever it may actually have left the kiln. Height ~ 11.50 cm. / 4.50 inches ~ Width ~ 15.00 cm. / 5.85 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1903 ~
