Fabulous Antique English Jewellery Box - Dated 1853 with Provenance

Description

A magnificent eight-sided Jewelry casket, lovely quality and complete with it's original interior.

The box was a gift to a Catherine Macandrew from a Lucy Watson and other friends in 1853, the original letter in it's original envelope comes with the box.

Made from exotic (and expensive) Rosewood, the top is outlined by fine brass stringing with a highly decorative central engraved brass cartouche, with the initials of Catherine Macandrew.

The front has a complimentary brass inlaid escutcheon which houses a working (replacement) key. The box opens to reveal a stunning Emerald Green Velvet and Cream Silk interior. The two original leather framed trays are beautifully gold embossed.

The interior of the of the lid retains the green ribbon creating a place to tuck small, letters and notes. This lid is kept closed with a Mother of Pearl catch which when opens reveals the pocket behind with it's original paper lining in pristine condition, everything is lovely quality.
