Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

Made from exotic (and expensive) Rosewood, the top is outlined by fine brass stringing with a highly decorative central engraved brass cartouche, with the initials of Catherine Macandrew.
The front has a complimentary brass inlaid escutcheon which houses a working (replacement) key. The box opens to reveal a stunning Emerald Green Velvet and Cream Silk interior. The two original leather framed trays are beautifully gold embossed.

The interior of the of the lid retains the green ribbon creating a place to tuck small, letters and notes. This lid is kept closed with a Mother of Pearl catch which when opens reveals the pocket behind with it's original paper lining in pristine condition, everything is lovely quality.
