Description

This wonderful pair of letter scales are by the very famous Sampson Mordan, the most highly sought-after maker, signed on the front, S.Mordan & Co. London.

The base is made from solid English Oak and houses the set of five solid cast weights including the small bell shaped one, often missing but present and correct in this case. The three cut-outs which house the weights are lined in a red leather.

The letter pan is beautifully engraved with the postage rates for "Inland", "British Empire" and "Egypt & USA".

Dating to the Victorian era, around 1900, this is an impressive desk / office accessory, in superb polished condition. The base has a footprint measuring 9 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 4 1/4" tall.
