Belloni of Shaftsbury Longcase Clock

Description

A well proportioned Dorset moon phase longcase clock. A mahogany case with re-entrant base panel. An arched hood pediment surmounted by 3 original brass finials. Brass capped turned side columns. An arched trunk door with concave moulded edge. An arched painted dial with floral corners and lunar moon-phases to the arch. A seconds dial and date aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Frederick Belloni of Shaftsbury is recorded in Tribe and Whatmoor's 'Dorset Clocks and Clockmakers' book as working in the High Street from 1830-1855. He was born in Switzerland in 1801.

Height 7ft 2 " / 218cms.
