Barber of Yarmouth Moving Swan Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A good quality Georgian longcase clock with rarer feature of a moving swan to the arch. A fretted hood pediment with 3 original brass finials. Corinthium brass capped hood columns. An arched trunk door. An early example of arched painted dial with raised gilt corners with flowers. Date and seconds indicators with fine quality brass crown hands. A swan automaton to the arch. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Thomas Barber of Great Yarmouth is recorded in Birds' 'Norfolk and Norwich Clockmakers' book as working 1790-1839.

Height 7ft 2 " / 219cms.
