A Victorian Stained Glass Lantern

19th century
Description

This beautiful Mid-Late Victorian stained glass lantern has some rare and unusual pieces of glass in it.

The frame is all lead, and there is an indication that it used to hang the other way up and was originally lit by candles.

The light measures 33cm including the lead feet at top and bottom, and the glass framework measures 26cm in length and 22cm in width.

The pieces of rare glass includes the flashed ruby glass, which can only be cut from one side; some of the opaque/clear glass is Glasgow glass and hasn't been made for many, many years. But most unusual is the central flower design which is ground and polished flashed ruby glass which we are advised is quite rare.

The light doesn't need wiring as it will hang from a hook over an existing light bulb.

This is a lovely item in very good condition. This can be viewed in the Surrey area.

Because of the rarity of the glass, delivery or collection preferred. We have a courier who delivers to most parts of the UK for a very reasonable charge.
