Description

This beautiful pair of commodes could be used as bedsides or in the living room as side pieces. They are very impressive & the marquetry in the middle is particularly good quality. I think they are predominately King Wood, with King Wood or walnut parquetry & some fine inlays. The central floral marquetry panels contain many different exotic woods, which in turn are laid on to burr walnut panels. This is all very colourful & beautifully done. The marble tops are also in good original condition & the colourful veins are splendid. There are two drawers on each piece. The handles, mounts & escutcheons are all gilt bronze. These commodes are antique French style & I would say they date to around the 1910-20's period. If you look closely you will see slight differences mainly between the floral marquetry middle panels of each chest & the marble tops are different shades. They were all individually made, so that's quite normal.
