Slimline Scottish Long-case Clock

19th century
Description

A most attractive mahogany long-case clock from the early part of the 19thC (C1810).

The painted, arched dial with roses to the corners and an urn with bayleaf garlands to the lunnet. It has black Roman numerals and is signed "MITCHELL & RUFFEL - GLASGOW". It has subsiduary seconds and date dials.

The 8 day movement strikes on a bell on the hours. It has just been fully serviced by our BHI registered engineers

The beautifull flame mahogany case is generously inlaid with boxwood, ebony and other choice timbers. It has a lovely deep, rich patina. The base terminates in a narrow plinth over 4 bun feet and is in totally original condition.

Mitchell& Ruffel (Russel) are recorded as working in Glasgow between 1803-1841.
