Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The well figured case with its cushion base veneered in fine "flame" mahogany, features carved "ears" to both sides, whilst the eight day movement is twin fusee ~ striking hours on a bell, with its original painted dial; cast brass bezel and brass pendulum. Guaranteed for at least two years.

The Gath family are recorded working in Bristol from 1830 until about 1879. The son was on his own from 1863, so this can be firmly dated prior to that date. (See "Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World" by Loomes, page 87)
