Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The base is made from cast iron, making this a hefty piece weighing 2.5 Kilos or 5 1/2 Pounds; not to worry, our popular FREE registered shipping is still included in the price.

This piece is made even more desirable, signed WT & S on both the Iron and at the top of the brass handle for the famous William Tonks & Sons. William Tonks founded this firm in 1789 (or 1794?). They won gold medals at the 1851 and 1862 Exhibitions in London and in 1855 at Paris.

The top of the handle is also lucky enough to have an English design registration diamond, hard to decipher exactly but this format dates to between 1842 and 1867, I would think around 1860.
Superb in every way including condition, with a footprint measuring 6 3/4" max x 3" and standing 11" tall to top of handle. As practical as beautiful.
