"THE AMERICAN" (sometimes known as "Uncle Sam"): a Royal Worcester porcelain figure from the "Countries of the World" series by James Hadley.

In 1881 James Hadley, the factory's most famous and highly regarded modeller, designed a series of nine porcelain figures representing "Countries of the World."

Uncle Sam stands with hands tucked into his breeches wearing a neckscarf and wide-brmmed hat. Date code for 1882; about 7ins high.
