Victorian Mahogany Mirror-back Sideboard

An impressive mahogany mirror-backed sideboard dating from the mid 19th century and with a slight Gothic influence and good rich colour.
 
The rectangular mirror back is surmounted by a large pierced carving of a stylised cross and intertwined foliage and is supported by fluted uprights with similar cross finials. It has a useful shelf below with angular arched supports to each end. The carvings are well done and have a nice simplicity compared to other pieces of the period.
 
The inverse breakfront top has a moulded edge and three freize drawers above a central section with a double cupboard door and two single cupboard doors to either side, one fitted with two slides, the other with a shelf. The doors have nice panels and mouldings and the whole stands on a plinth base. There are locks to the side and centre doors and we have a key which operates the sides but not the centre.
 
This is in very good condition for it’s age. The mirror has a dark ‘peel’ near the centre approx. ...
