17th Century Carving of a Bearded Man

This is a very early piece it is reputed to have come from the top of a newel post form a building near Southampton.

The carving itself dates from the 17th Century, it is in Fruitwood and our stern subject would most likely had maritime connexions

The carving is in good condition, it is 16” tall and about 9” in diameter
