Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Turn the tray over and the underside has figural faces attaching the handle to the body of the tray, a true sign of top-notch detailing and top-notch quality.

The tray is beautifully engraved, this really is a gem. The underside has a mark for the well renowned Martin Hall and Company , this mark used between 1855 and 1866, allowing us to date this piece fairly accurately.

In 1854 entered into the partnership Richard Martin (of Martin Brothers & Naylor) and Joshua Hall (brother of Ebenezer Hall) under the style Martin, Hall & Co.
The quality of their products was evident and showcased at a string of international exhibitions, including the 1851 Great Exhibition, the International Exhibition (1862), the Sydney Exhibition (1879), the Melbourne Exhibition (1881) and the 1915 British Industries Fair.
About as good as they get and in superb condition. The tray spans 24" handle to handle x 15 1/2" wide.
