Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.
) marquetry inlaid and hand painted. The striped wallpaper is all inlaid, the hair a separate inlay, the boots and the parquetry floor all inlaid and even the envelope on the floor is inlaid; quite stunning and about as decorative as you will ever come across.

The box is covered in Mahogany parquetry work, the grain running in alternative directions created a chequered design. The edges are cross-banded and trimmed in Ebony.
The box comes complete with a working key, and once opened reveals two removable trays lined in what looks to be a Burr Ash timber. The interior was clearly never lined and perhaps used to store stationery and writing accoutrement (given the letter theme on top) rather than jewelry, of course it would make a wonderful jewellery box today.
Excellent condition and a good sized box measuring 12 1/2" x 10" x 5 1/2".
