Figural English Sterling Silver & Enamel Compact - Dog - Pug

Description

A rare, highly desirable and striking little compact made from English sterling silver with a hallmark for Birmingham 1916, making this very nearly 100 years old; the maker's initials are slightly rubbed but can be made out (C & N) for Crisford and Norris.

Of course what makes this rare and exciting is the beautifully executed hand painted enamel on the lid, a beautifully handsome Pug. The lid fits well and once opened reveals a mirror on the inside of the lid, which does have some discolouration to the silvering but is the original and best left the way it is.

The enamel is in as perfect condition as one could wish with some minor surface scratching. The compact measures 3 1/2" long including the handle x 2"; the enamel has a diameter measuring 1 5/8". Stunning!
