A Fine Quality Rosewood Davenport

19th century
Description

An impressive early 19th century rosewood DAVENPORT (writing desk) of particularly good and heavy quality. The top, with its original cast brass gallery and blind-tooled leather writing surface, slides forward (to accommodate ones legs) and opens to reveal the fitted interior with two small drawers.

To either side there is a slide, with a hinged pen-and-in drawer, and four long graduated drawers to the right, with "dummy" drawers opposite. These drawers are beautifully lined in mahogany and all retain their original solid rosewood handles.

It is supported on solid compressed 'bun' feet with original brass castors concealed within. A very good quality davenport in excellent condition.
