Antique Baluch Tribal Rug, Khorassan, North-east Persia

1900 - 1920
Description

In excellent condition with only very slight brown-dye corrosion, this is a very beautiful rug of the Baluch tribes of Khorassan, north-east Persia, made around 1900. I particularly like the gorgeous, saturated madder-red throughout and the field of stylised flowers with small stylised 'trees' squeezed in along each vertical side of the field design. Another lovely touch to the rug is the sky-blue colour which outlines each of the flowers - a truly superb combination with the madder-red.

Size: 1.60m x 0.89m (5' 3" x 3' 0").
